Kaieteur News – Roraima Airways on Saturday commissioned two new twin-engine Technam P2012 aircraft, which it acquired from Italy.
The Technam P2012 aircraft was commissioned at the Roraima Airways Hangar at the Ogle Airport, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Attending the simple, yet significant, ceremony was Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, EU Ambassador to Guyana, René Van Nes, Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Lt. Col. Egbert Field, Chief Investment Officer at the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, Captain Gerry Gouveia Jr. and Captain Gerry Gouveia, to name a few.
According to information provided by the Public Works Ministry, Minister Edghill who delivered the feature address, lauded the new addition, emphasizing that it aligns with President Irfaan Ali’s goal of ensuring Guyana’s aviation capacity is the best within the region, while promoting safety and meeting international competitiveness in comfort.
He added that the government is simultaneously building out the necessary infrastructure within the hinterland to accommodate more aircraft like the Technam P2012 and helicopters. This expansion also includes improved policies.
“So it’s legislation, capacity building, it is the acquisition of new aircraft, and it is advancing safety and security,” he said. This publication understands that the new WiFi and air-conditioned aircraft, has been dubbed as the beginning of the advancement of the local aviation landscape.
According to the ministry, the minister informed also that since January 2021 to date, the aviation industry and registry have recorded the addition of 13 new aircraft. The ministry added that the new Technam P2012 aircraft’s navigational systems and high-speed twin engines allow it to pilot the various terrains and conditions in the hinterland.
Meanwhile, providing brief remarks was Captain Gouveia Jr. who said with the acquisition of the aircraft will allow Roraima Airways to innovate and redefine what is possible in the Caribbean and domestic aviation.
He told the gathering that Roraima Airways has never been content just to follow and by heritage him and his brother are pacesetters and are always looking for ways to innovate and raise the bar.
He recalled that they were the first in Guyana to introduce GPS navigation systems in the aviation environment, and were the first to implement spot tracker technology which is a GPS technology that tracks aircraft minute by minute thereby increasing the safety and operational visibility for both the team and passengers.
“And today we are building on that legacy by offering Guyana’s first Starlink integrated aircraft so that our clients can surf the web which the clients were doing on the aircraft minutes ago, so that this cutting edge system we can have 100% internet connectivity whether you are flying along the coast or in our hinterland or across to our Caribbean destinations,” he related.
According to Captain Gouveia Jr, this investment is a leap forward in how they will define the passenger’s experience in an era where connection is everything.
“A purpose built for regional travel and design for fuel efficiency, operational versatility and modern comfort, this aircraft will not just serve our hinterland communities we are also looking to expand in our Caribbean region, we are looking to connect Guyana being a centre of excellence and a hub of aviation innovation and have that expand to our Caribbean brothers and sisters,” he noted.
Additionally, this will act as connection for increased trade, agriculture, tourism and cultural connection in the region.
At the event, the Director General of GCAA and GO-Invest head, Dr.Ramsaroop provided brief remarks where they applauded the Roraima family on the acquisition of two new aircraft and noted it will play an important role in the country’s aviation sector.
