Kaieteur News- The mother of the 13-year-old Wakenaam Secondary School student who was allegedly forced to drink bleach by her three classmates in a school washroom late last month, is demanding justice for her daughter.
Kavita Persaud said she believes the disturbing incident is being “swept under the rug.” She expressed frustration that, to date, the students accused of inflicting harm on her daughter have not been held accountable for their actions.
“It’s unfair; it’s totally unfair, what they do to my daughter. Fuh know that them (the alleged bullies) deh at school for them Easter term test and … (her daughter) out of school, and since from the starting, them supposed to get suspend from the school,” a distraught Persaud stated.
Underscoring her unwavering stance, she added, “I just want to get justice for … (her daughter), them have to face some disciplinary action. What if this happens to somebody else’s child?”
Persaud confirmed that an investigation into the alleged attack has been initiated. While her daughter will be transferred to another school for her safety and well-being, the mother remains resolute in her pursuit of justice and appropriate disciplinary measures against those involved in the alleged assault.
The 13-year-old student was allegedly ambushed in the school washroom on March 31, by three classmates who had reportedly subjected her to bullying for approximately three years. During the incident, the teen was reportedly blocked, physically assaulted, held down, and forcibly made to swallow bleach. Following the attack, the bullies reportedly threatened the victim before fleeing when they heard teachers nearby.
The victim subsequently confided in her mother, who then engaged with the parents of the accused students and the school. Following discussions at the school, the young girl reportedly fell ill and was hospitalised for four days at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The Ministry of Education is investigating the allegations surrounding this incident.
