Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh if you tief two plantain and a bottle of liquor, yuh better prepare fuh spend two months in jail. Court gon tell you straight — “No bail. You is a flight risk. Plus, liquor expensive these days.”
But if yuh roll up in court wid three robbery charges, two illegal gun possession, and one fuh discharging a firearm in a public place — somehow, yuh walking out whistling like yuh going fuh Sunday lunch.
Dem boys seh this system got split personality. One man get charge fuh cuss a police and end up on remand, while another man get charge fuh shoot up a whole block and he deh out on bail.
Is like de court got two doors — one fuh small man who forget to pay he parking ticket, and another one fuh big-time criminal wid lawyer pon speed dial.
Dem boys know a man who get remanded fuh loitering. LOITERING! He seh he was just standing up by the corner waiting fuh he lil cousin. Judge seh, “You got history.” What history? The man ain’t even got a Facebook page!
But then you got fellas wid more pending charges than GT&T got dropped calls. Robbery under arms, assault, possession of ammo, whole rap sheet long like East Coast Road. And still — bail granted.
Dem boys start fuh wonder if bail is something yuh does get based on seriousness of crime or seriousness of connections.
And when dem come out pon bail? Back pon de road like is part-time wuk dem doing. Two days later, de same face pon CCTV snatching pensioner bag, or sticking up a shop.
So dem boys seh is time fuh ask — bail is fuh who really? Fuh de man who need one more chance, or fuh de man who got ten chances and still using dem fuh mek people life miserable?
Dem boys seh de law should be like coconut water — same taste fuh everybody. But right now, some people getting Moët while others sucking pipe.
Talk half, leff half.
