Kaieteur Sports- A historic moment has arrived for cue sports in Guyana as the Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey National 9-Ball Pool Championship cues off today, marking the official launch of the first-ever national edition of the tournament by the Cue Sports Association of Guyana (CSAG Inc.).
Hailed as the most significant cue sports event in the nation’s history, this championship aims to elevate the status of local pool by showcasing a faster-paced, more electrifying style of play. With national rankings and over $600,000 in cash prizes on the line, the tournament promises intense competition and thrilling matchups throughout.
The action will unfold across three premier venues including Sunil and Son Pool Bar, Embassy American Style Sports Bar, and Suraj Sports Bar, culminating in a grand finale set for May 4.
The tournament will employ a double-elimination format, ensuring that only the most consistent and skilled players make it to the final stages. With over 60 matches on the schedule, each game will carry valuable ranking points, establishing an official leaderboard for the first time in Guyanese pool history.
“This tournament represents a turning point for cue sports in Guyana,” said a spokesperson for CSAG Inc. “It’s not just about competition—it’s about building a culture, recognizing talent, and creating a future for the sport in this country.”
The stakes are high, with a champion’s purse of $200,000. The runner-up will take home $150,000, while third and fourth-place finishers will collect $75,000 each. Those finishing in fifth through eighth positions will also receive $25,000 apiece, underscoring the championship’s commitment to rewarding excellence across the board.
Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey headlines the tournament as the official title sponsor, bringing a fiery flair to the event. Additional support comes from Web-Source Guyana, Global Imaging Services, Andy’s Auto Spares, Mandy Mangru, and the participating host venues.
