Kaieteur News- A 24-year-old hairdresser was placed on $75,000 bail on Friday when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a larceny charge.
The accused, Toni Parris, of Lot 13 Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty where she pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It was alleged that on November 27, 2024 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Parris who was a clerk stole $643,060 in cash.
Parris’s attorney, told the court that on the day in question her client placed all monies into the designated vault, which is required after each transaction. She also told the court that the area where Parris worked has security cameras.
The prosecution objected to bail due to the serious nature of the offence. Further, on the day in question 16 patients conducted business and the defendant did not submit the required financial documents.
The attorney said too that the security camera was not working at the time of the incident neither was it positioned to the defendant’s workstation.
The matter was adjourned until May 9, 2025.
