Kaieteur News- An electrician from Albouystown was placed on $150,000 bail on Monday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a possession of an unlicensed firearm charge.
The defendant, Gavin Newman, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The prosecution told the court that on April 4, 2025, at Hill Street, Albouysttown, police officers stopped the defendant and conducted a search in his car and found an unlicensed pistol.
Newman’s attorney told the court that the police heard gunshots coming from the direction of a funeral on Hill Street. He said ranks stopped his client at a connected street. When a search was conducted, however, nothing was found. He said the gun was found elsewhere.
Magistrate Azore granted bail and the matter was adjourned until May 27, 2025.
