Kaieteur Sports- The East Bank Demerara Cricket Association (EBDCA) premier Second Division 40-Over Cricket Championship, sponsored by D&R Construction and Machinery Rental, concluded its quarterfinal stage last weekend. Ruimveldt, Herstelling ‘A’, EBDCA U23, and Peter’s Hall Sports Club secured their spots in the semifinals, setting the stage for an exciting penultimate round.
Quarterfinal Recap
The quarterfinal matches were contested across the Farm, Queen’s College, and Canal #2 grounds. The battle for semifinal berths began at the Farm ground, where Sandpipers Sports Club faced off against Ruimveldt Sports Club on Saturday, March 29. Ruimveldt delivered a dominant performance, securing an 88-run victory.
Batting first, Ruimveldt posted a formidable total of 254 all out. Udesyave Balgobin anchored the innings with a solid 68, while Daney Narayan contributed a patient 46. For Sandpipers, Junior Phillip (3-49) and Abilash Dookie (2-44) were among the wickets but proved expensive. In response, Sandpipers struggled despite a spirited 61 from Ifran Ali, eventually folding for 166, with Rickey Sargeant starring with the ball, claiming 3-14.
Over at the Queen’s College ground, Herstelling ‘A’ inflicted a crushing 243-run defeat on Silverbullet Sports Club. Opting to bat first, Herstelling ‘A’ amassed 322 all out, thanks to explosive half-centuries from Arshad Azim (82) and Mahendra Dhanpaul (80). Azim peppered the field with 10 fours and two sixes, while Dhanpaul’s knock featured seven boundaries and five maximums. In reply, Silverbullet crumbled to just 79 all out, with Ershad Ali wreaking havoc, taking 6-21, while Rickie Looknauth chipped in with 2-18.
At Canal #2, EBDCA U23 edged past North Soesdyke Sports Club in a low-scoring contest. North Soesdyke managed only 90 all out, but EBDCA U23 faced some resistance before reaching 91-7, guided by Deonarine Dindial (36) and Joash Charles (31).
Peter’s Hall Sports Club sealed the last semifinal spot with a 59-run victory over Herstelling ‘B’ at the Farm ground. Batting first, Peter’s Hall posted 109 all out, with Narendra Persaud (34) and Yorendra (14) making valuable contributions. Defending a modest total, Shane Persaud and Ryan Seecharran produced a sensational bowling display, each claiming five-wicket hauls. Persaud finished with 5-17, while Seecharran took 5-12, bundling out Herstelling ‘B’ for just 50.
With the semifinal matchups now set for this weekend, the competition intensifies as the remaining teams vie for a spot in the final of this thrilling tournament.
