Kaieteur News- A 26-year-old man was arrested by police on Tuesday, after he was caught with $180,000 in suspected forged Guyana currency notes.
Tristan Saphan Franklyn, a resident of Friendship Village, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was taken into custody after Althea Peters, a 44-year-old customer services representative and cashier at Banks DIH made a report to the Stabroek police outpost.
She reported that a customer, who identified himself as Tristan Saphan Franklyn, came to her workplace to purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The woman told ranks that Franklyn paid her $80,000 all consisting of $5000 dollar notes. “She collected the money and, on checking it, she observed that it appeared fake. She handed over the money to a police rank at the Stabroek outpost after which she identified Franklyn to the police and he was arrested,” police said.
Following his arrest, ranks searched a black haversack in Franklyn’s possession and found $180,000, consisting of $5000 dollar notes, all suspected to be forged. Police then escorted him to Brickdam Police Station, where he was placed in custody. The suspected forged currency notes were placed in an evidence bag, marked, sealed and lodged to be taken to the forensic laboratory for analysis. Investigations are ongoing.
