Kaieteur News- A man was arrested by police on Monday evening after officers discovered an illegal firearm and ammunition in his possession while investigating a domestic violence report made against him.
Police said the report against Navindra Singh of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, was made by Melinda Richardson.
“The police proceeded to Bath Settlement in company of Melinda Richardson. Upon arrival, Melinda led the ranks to the residence of the suspect, Navindra Singh but he was not present,” police said in the report.
Ranks then patrolled Super Value Street where Richardson identified Singh who was sitting in front of a supermarket. He was approached and arrested for using threatening language.
During a search, police discovered a black .38 revolver and five live rounds of .38 ammunitions in Singh’s pants waist. The police related that the suspect was shown the firearm, ammunition, was told of the offense, and cautioned.
He was escorted to the Fort Wellington Police Station. The firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged. Additionally, police then proceeded with Singh to his residence on Water Street, Bath Settlement. A search was conducted at the man’s house where three live 12-gauge cartridges were discovered in his refrigerator. A search of a cupboard also revealed a sock containing twelve live rounds of .38 caliber ammunition.
Police then took possession of the ammunition and informed Singh of the offense committed. Singh was cautioned and admitted ownership of the items. The ammunition was properly marked, sealed, and stored as evidence. He was placed in custody at Fort Wellington Police Station while investigations continues.
