Kaieteur News- Last Sunday, a 38-year-old man who was under the influence of alcohol, stabbed himself in the abdomen after saying that he wanted to ‘meet his maker’.
Police identified the man as Earl Benjamin of Section ‘B’ Sophia, Greater Georgetown. His injuries are labelled as critical at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to police reports, Benjamin “reportedly inflicted the wound on himself sometime Sunday evening at ‘C’ Field, Sophia.”
Reports indicate that Benjamin was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and, prior to the self-inflicted injury, had voiced his intention to end his life.
Emergency services were called to the scene and Benjamin was transported to the GPHC by emergency medical technicians (EMT), accompanied by his brother, Trenton Benjamin.
Police are investigating the matter.
