Kaieteur News- The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday stated that there is no evidence to support the abduction of a 28-year-old man, who had been reported missing by his grandmother.
The victim has been identified as Colin Junior Blair, who lives with down syndrome. Police reported that on March 23, 2025, Patricia Blair, a 74-year-old pensioner from North Sophia, visited the Kitty Police Station to report her grandson was missing. According to Patricia, Colin left their home on March 20, 2025, at around 14:00hrs, intending to visit a corner shop in Pike Street, Sophia, a place he frequented to socialise.
However, when Patricia went to check on him later that evening, residents informed her that they had seen Colin walking away from the shop in the company of two females. Police said, “Patricia Blair stated that on 21st March 2025, at about 19:00hrs, she decided to make a report at the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost after her grandson did not return home.”
She was later shown a TikTok video, which appeared to show Colin and the two women outside the Parliament building. The video prompted Patricia to conduct her own search, eventually leading her to Stabroek bus park, where a bus driver told her he had seen the group in Linden.
Following the information gathered, the police arrested the two females, one aged 30 and the other 15 on March 22, 2025, while they were with Colin at a shop in Fairview Village, North Rupununi. The two women were in the process of arranging transportation to Lethem. They were later sent to Kitty Police Station along with Colin Blair where they were placed in custody and Colin Blair was sent away in the custody of his grandmother.
Further, the 15-year-old girl, a waitress from Lethem, told police that she and the 30-year-old female had been friends for some time. The older woman had reached out to the teenager, asking her to bring her to Lethem for a job opportunity,” police stated.
The 15-year-old said the victim is known to both of them. The teen claimed they told Blair that they were going and ‘lime’ and they asked him if he wanted to go with them. He said ‘yes’, and he followed them. They then left Pike Street, Sophia and caught a minibus to Georgetown. While in the minibus, the teen said Blair told her that he was feeling hot. As a result, she took off the jersey he was wearing and put on one of her dresses on him. On arrival at the Stabroek bus park, she took off the dress from Colin Blair and put his jersey back on. They proceeded to Linden bus park, where they caught a Route 43 minibus and went to Linden. While in Linden, they boarded another vehicle en route to Lethem. On arrival at the Kurupukari Crossing, they went to a shop to purchase food.
Additionally, the 30-year-old female, when interviewed by the police, supported the story told by the 15-year-old girl. They both submitted written statements to the effect. The 30-year-old was later placed on bail while the teen was sent away in the custody of her parents, said police. On Wednesday, Colin Blair in the company of his grandmother was taken to Dr. Keon Chung, a special education officer at the Cyril Potter College of Education, UG Road, Greater Georgetown. Blair was evaluated by Dr. Chung in the presence of his grandmother and the police. On completion, Dr. Chung stated that Blair was unresponsive and could not interact. As a result, no statement or information was obtained from him about the incident. Police said, “From the investigation conducted thus far, it is the view of the investigating rank that there is no evidence to suggest that Blair was abducted. There is also no evidence that he was wrongfully confined or kept against his will.” It was added, “None of these suggestions can be disputed because of Blair’s condition, and no one came forward with any evidence supporting the allegation that he was abducted.” In light of this and the fact that one of the suspects involved is a 15-year-old, police will seek legal advice on the way forward.
