Kaieteur News- A 40-year-old woman was found dead on Wednesday morning at the Sunflower Hotel/Restaurant and Bar, located at the corner of South Road and Cummings Street, Georgetown.
The deceased has been identified as Junan Gomes, of Lot 306 Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to police, Gomes was discovered in Room #5 by the hotel’s supervisor, Coleen Cush, at around 08:45 hrs. Investigations revealed that Gomes had checked into the hotel on Monday and had complained to Cush about feeling unwell. Cush told police that Gomes was a frequent customer at the hotel.
“At about 08:45 hrs, Cush stated that she went to Room #5 and knocked on the door several times but got no answer. She immediately went downstairs and collected the extra keys to the room and when she opened the door, she discovered Gomes lying on her bed, naked, and in an unconscious state,” police said.
Emergency services, including police officers and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), were immediately called to the scene. Gomes was officially pronounced dead by a doctor. Crime scene technicians, along with a team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Crime Laboratory, processed the scene. Investigators conducted a search of Gomes’ body but found no signs of violence. Several individuals were questioned as the investigation continues. Hotel staff informed Kaieteur News that Gomes was a businesswoman who frequently stayed at the hotel for short periods before returning home.
