Canje Secondary and Tutorial Academy sores victories
Kaieteur Sports- Two schools scored victories when the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam (RCNA) Childhood Obesity Prevention tape ball Inter Secondary School Cricket competition got on the way.

The competition, which is sponsored and organized by the RCNA, involves secondary schools in the New Amsterdam/ Canje district with six schools participating.
It is being played using the theme “Exercise, eat healthy, stay healthy” and caters to students in Grades 7-9.
The schools taking part are New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School (NAMS), Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS), Berbice Educational Institute (BEI), Berbice High School (BHS), Vryman’s Erven Secondary School (VESS) and Canje Secondary School (CSS.)
The two matches played saw CSS and TASS scoring victories in the 10 overs a side competition.
CSS defeated BHS by seven runs. Batting first CSS reached 67-8 with Renny Fishmillo 17, Shameer Ali 14 and Kelson Kisten 11 top scoring.
Bowling for BHS, Dharvesh Narine 3, Kelvin Henry 2, Khushal Muthan and Tye Fortune took the wickets. In reply, BHS were held to 60-9. No batsman reached double figures with extras contributing 23.
Bowling for CSS Shameer Ali took 3 wickets, Anthony Persaud grabbed 2 with Deonarine Worti, Shaheed Ali and Michael Matthew one each.
In the second game, TASS got the better of NAMS by 2 wickets.
A good all-round performance by Darean Sinclair led his team to victory. With NAMS taking first strike scoring 54-7 with Donovan Newland 16, Elijah Sookdeo 12 and Tameshwar Deonandan10.
When TASS replied Sinclair hit a top score of 21 to lead his team to 55-8. No other batsmen reached double figures.
Bowling for NAMS, Sokdeo picked up 2 wickets with Newland, Deonandan and Dillon taking one each.
The competition is being played on a round-robin basis. With the schools being divided into two groups. The top two of one group will emerge to play the top two of the other group.
Each school team must play two females and one of the females is required to bowl at least one over.
Incentives are available for the top teams and outstanding individual players.
Matches will be played at the BHS and Rose Hall Community Centre Ground, East Canje.
The competition continues on Friday March 28th with four matches. At the BHS ground BEI will play Tutorial from 09:00 hrs, in the second game from 11:00 hrs BEI will be in action again against NAMS.
Over at the Rose Hall Community Centre VESS will go into action against BHS beginning at 9:00hrs and from 11:00hrs VESS will play CSS.
The RCNA coordinating committee is made up of President Keine Read, Raffick Kassim, Tajpaul Adjodhea, Waynewright McIntosh and Nolan France.
The RCNA over the years had churned out an array of projects that has befitted thousands of residents. Recently Club commissioned a multimillion-dollar bus shed opposite the New Amsterdam Hospital. (Samuel Whyte)
