Dear Editor,
Glenn Lall and his media house (KN, in particular) have been key to change in government in Guyana. His paper has exposed bad governance, authoritarianism, and corruption ever since it was founded.
It was because of the exposure of corruption by KN that the PPP lost ground to the AFC in 2006 and its majority in 2011. And it was because of KN that the coalition edged out the PPP in 2015. It was because of KN’s exposure of poor governance by the coalition that PPP was returned to office in 2020. And it was because of KN that the attempts at rigging in 2020 were exposed. The PPP lacks gratitude in attacking Glenn.
Over the last few years, Glenn and KN have been the subject of attacks from paid media operatives and the PPP leader Bharrat Jagdeo. The VP never passed an opportunity to belittle Glenn and threatened that if Glenn enters the political fray, he “will deal with Glenn”.
Mr. Lall has a huge following and people have been calling for his entry in politics to usher in new politics that address the needs of the country rather than self- enrichment of politicians. From Crabwood Creek to Charity and beyond, people are beseeching Glenn to be their Presidential candidate. Mr. Lall should honour the wishes of the population.
In a democracy, anyone is entitled to seek elective office. The Guyana constitution grants Glenn and other citizens the right to run for President. He will be the change that the nation desires if the public elects him as their President or in any office or as a member of parliament. He can make any party enabling it to take office.
Therefore, Mr. Lall should not be ignored by any new political party, and no one should take him for granted. Glenn has made tremendous sacrifice over last four years exposing corruption in several sectors including oil, gold, logging, grants, etc. It is imperative that anyone seeking office must realize that Glenn laid the ground work for change and should not be taken for granted. No one should enjoy the fruits of Glenn’s struggle by excluding him. Anyone who joins with him will be successful.
Your truly,
Danny Ramnarine
