Kaieteur News- A 23-year-old welder from 158 Non-Pariel Street, Albouystown was remanded to prison for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Shakeel Cox on Monday appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where the charges were read to him.
Cox is accused of having in his possession a 9mm smith pistol without being a license firearm holder as well as matching ammunition. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The prosecution told the court that on March 22, 2025 at North East La Penitence a search was conducted on the defendant and a firearm and live ammunition were found in a strap bag which was around his chest.
Meanwhile, the defense led by Attorney-at-law Dominick Bess told the court that on the day in question his client was in a motorcar outside of a bar. The police conducted a search on his client and nothing was found, they then searched under the said vehicle where the suspected firearm and live ammunition were found.
Cox was remanded until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for April 28, 2025.
