Kaieteur News- Imagine yuh bring a tief in yuh house. Not just any tief—one who got a history of tekking what ain’t theirs. And instead of locking up yuh jewelry and money, yuh leave de vault wide open, like yuh begging dem, “Come in, boss, help yuhself!”
Dat is exactly wah happening in Guyana. Dem oil company boys come in through de Production Sharing Agreement (PSA), and instead of we keeping a close eye pon dem, we lef de whole vault open. No meters, no pump checks, no ring-fencing—nutten! Is like giving a man yuh bank card and telling he, “Tek what yuh want, buddy, just lef lil change fuh me bus fare.”
Dem boys seh we government sign an oil contract wid de same level of caution like a man who meet a stranger online and decide fuh send he life savings, cause he claim he’s a prince. De oil deh pumping, de barrels adding up, but who counting? Not we! Is like going to de rum shop, leaving yuh tab open, and then wondering why yuh bank account empty.
And don’t talk about ring-fencing! Dat word missing from dem contract like commonsense missing from dem who sign it. Ring-fencing mean dem oil company boys can’t use money from one project fuh cover expenses from another. But since we ain’t put it in de contract, dem shifting cost like how dem cricket selectors does shift de batting order—random and disastrous!
Now dem boys seh if you see a duck swimming in de trench and yuh call it a horse, it still a duck. Well, dem government boys calling dis daylight robbery “investment,” but it still robbery. Guyana get invite to a buffet but instead of eating, we are de ones washing de plates.
Dem boys seh if yuh want to stop a tief, yuh don’t give he a key. But somehow, we not only give de oil companies de key, we tell dem which drawer got de good silverware. And we still standing up, scratching we head, wondering where all de money going.
Somebody gotta wake up and lock de vault!
Talk half! Leff half!
(Yuh leave de vault open!)
