Kaieteur News- Tulsie Ramprashad of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday for attempting to defraud an automated teller machine (ATM) belonging to Citizens Bank.
Ramprashad was arrested on 28th October, 2023 at the Citizens Bank outlet at OMG on Sheriff Street and Campbell Avenue, Georgetown, with four blank cards.
On November 1, 2023, he was charged with the offence of Possession of Illegal Devices (blank cards with magnetic strips), Contrary to Section 8(2)(a) of the Cyber Crime Act 16/2008.
He made his first appearance before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the charge was read to him and he pleaded not guilty.
On Friday, Magistrate Orinthia Schmidt who presides over the trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court ruled that the defendant was found guilty of Possession of Illegal Devices.
He was sentenced in absentia with a fine of $800,000.
