Milo/Massy 11th Annual U18 Football Championship
Kaieteur Sports- The 11th Annual Milo/Massy Schools Under-18 Football Championship kicked off in electrifying fashion yesterday, with Chase’s Academic Foundation, Dolphin Secondary, and Abram Zuil Secondary asserting their dominance on the opening day. Waramuri Secondary, Three Mile Secondary, and Charlestown Secondary also registered impressive victories as the Petra Organisation kick off the 2025 tournament with six thrilling encounters at the Ministry of Education and Queen’s College grounds.
Defending champions Chase’s Academic Foundation began their title defence in a familiar manner, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Hope Secondary. Star forward Bryan Wharton stole the show with a four-goal performance, finding the back of the net in the 2nd, 16th, 25th, and 68th minutes. His clinical finishing and composure proved too much for Hope’s sluggish defence. Darius Chester added another goal to round off the dominant win.
Dolphin Secondary made a powerful statement with a commanding 8-0 win over Tutorial High. Jamal Williams was in sensational form, netting a hat-trick with goals in the 40th, 44th, and 66th minutes. Ezekiel David also made a strong contribution, scoring twice (12’, 60’), while Rashleigh, Gavin Adams, and Tyler Abrams each found the net to complete the rout.
At Queen’s College ground, LeBron Mendonca was the hero for Three Mile Secondary, securing a narrow 1-0 win over West Demerara Secondary. Meanwhile, Abram Zuil Secondary stamped their authority with a 5-0 thrashing of St. John’s College. Omar Kendall netted twice (27’, 39’), while Lester Noel (35’), Eron Benjamin (42’), and Jaden Evans (54’) ensured a comfortable victory despite early missed chances.
Waramuri Secondary delivered a solid 3-0 win over South Ruimveldt, showcasing their defensive discipline and attacking prowess. Charlestown Secondary also began their campaign on a high note, overcoming St. John’s College 3-1.
The tournament, sponsored by Nestlé Milo, Massy Distribution, MVP Sports, and supported by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, and the National Sports Commission, continues today with six more exciting matches at both venues.
