…presented token in honour of his life
Kaieteur News- Officials from Mae’s Schools on Sunday visited the home of Deon Anderson, the mother of Fireman Voshaun Manbodh, who died after sustaining injuries while responding to the recent fire that destroyed the school.
The fire occurred on March 5, 2025 when Mandobh was on duty. While battling the blaze, a portion of the building collapsed on him, causing serious injuries to his neck. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
In a statement, Mae’s School expressed heartfelt compassion and solidarity for Manbodh’s family: “The fire, which broke out on Wednesday, 5th March, caused significant losses and, more importantly, resulted in the loss of one of our community’s heroes,” the school stated.
During their visit, representatives of Mae’s, including the school’s primary administrator, Lucinda McCurdy, and the school’s proprietor, Mr. David Sugrim, expressed their deepest condolences and offered unwavering support to the grieving family.
“We are devastated by the loss of Voshaun Manbodh. His courage and dedication to protecting our community will not be forgotten,” said Sugrim.
Similarly, McCurdy said, “We wanted to let Ms. Anderson know that she is not alone; the entire Mae’s community stands with her.”
The school’s officials also presented a token of appreciation to Manbodh’s mother and “listened to the unfortunate events that led to his demise.”
The officials “emphasised that his sacrifice exemplifies the bravery and commitment of all first responders, making his loss even more regrettable.”
The team also visited Fireman Junior Morrison who was injured in the blaze. He was successfully treated and later discharged.
The school expressed gratitude to all firefighters, first responders, and community members who have offered support during this challenging time and invites the community to join them in honouring the life of Manbodh.
