Kaieteur News- A 25-year-old cosmetologist and her brother-in-law were on Friday fined $10,000 each when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, for throwing missiles at each other.
The cosmetologist, Orianna Hercules of Lot 3665 Christini Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown was charged for using abusive language, breach of a Protection Order and throwing missiles in the form of glass bottles at her brother-in-law Shawn Walton on February 19, 2025 at the said address.
The charges were read to her by Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty. Hercules pleaded guilty to the throwing of missiles charge but pleaded not guilty to the other two charges.
Hercules told the court that on the day in question she was preparing her child for school when her brother-in-law, who lives next door, started to curse her and tell her awful things about her family.
The woman said that Walton then picked up a bottle and threw it at her which hit her in her stomach, it fell and broke resulting in her feet being injured.
Hercules disclosed that she armed herself with a glass bottle and threw it at Walton.
However, Walton told the court that on the day of the incident, he was at home because he was unwell. He said he was trying to rest when he heard Hercules speaking loudly. He said his peace was disturbed.
Walton said he stepped out of his home to address the matter with Hercules but the duo got into an argument. He said he armed himself with a glass bottle and threw it at her. The man told the court that Hercules retaliated by throwing two bottles at him.
Magistrate McGusty, after hearing from both parties, reminded Walton that when he appeared in court on February 21, 2025 he pleaded not guilty to throwing missiles at Hercules.
The magistrate said that based on statements made on Friday he is guilty by admission. She asked Walton if he wished to change his plea to which he agreed.
He was then fined $10,000.
Meanwhile, Magistrate McGusty placed Hercules on $20,000 bail for the abusive language and breach of the peace charges. Like Walton, she was also fined $10,000 for the throwing missiles charge.
Hercules was also placed on a peace bond while the matter is before the court.
