… ‘Guyanese Critic’ did not show up to give statement to police
…Police sent file for legal advice
Kaieteur News- Guyanese businessman Nazar “Shell” Mohamed has called out social media commentator Mikhail Rodrigues also known as the ‘Guyanese Critic’, saying that the interview he broadcasted with a 17-year-old girl accusing his son Azruddin Mohammed of sexual abuse – was politically motivated.
In a video posted Tuesday night on Facebook, Shell Mohamed defended his son and questioned the allegations. He also linked the incident to persons working on behalf of the People’s Progressive Party government. He said that the accusations were politically motivated, stating, “For this man to fabricate these lies… it has been confirmed that this was a plan by, you know, people that are very close to this administration.”
“I want to make it very clear that I have instilled in my family values,” he said.
Shell Mohamed added, “I’m very disturbed about it, because this is no joke, and I want to thank the public for standing with Azruddin because the plan was that if the public had bought into it and carried pressure. Then it would have gone differently.”
He said that his son reported the matter to the police but, “up to today, the Guyanese Critic didn’t show up at the station to give a statement on the issue and to identify who this individual is, what is really going on in our society. I just can’t understand how people can be so evil to do something like this.”
Moreover, Nazar’s son Azruddin Mohamed told this publication that he voluntarily reported the matter to the police, the day after the interview was aired by Guyanese Critic on Facebook. He said that the report was made at the Brickdam Police Station and he was told he will be contacted for further updates but have not heard from the police since then. However, when contacted on Wednesday, Regional Commander 4 ‘A’ Simon McBean confirmed that the case remains under investigation and that a file has been sent for legal advice.
Mohamed through his lawyers had vehemently and wholeheartedly refuted all claims of sexual misconduct, sexual impropriety or predatory sexual behaviour against the minor child, and anyone else involved in the broadcast made by the alleged victim in the interview broadcasted on February 10, 2025.
According to the statement, “Mohamed is ready, willing and able to submit himself to any polygraph test, administered by competent professionals, be they at the FBI, Scotland Yard or any other International Agency to corroborate his denial of the allegations made against him.” The lawyers observed that what they considered to be worrying aspects of the interview. They noted that it begs belief that a minor child appeared on a national, public interview, with her face obscured but her parents absent while being interviewed by another adult.
Mohamed’s lawyers reminded that there are laws that prescribe the manner in which these interviews are to be conducted, questions ought to be asked and answers ought to be given forthwith, as to whether or not the minor child sought the proper help, in the proper way.
Additionally, Mohamed’s attorneys said that “Questions ought to be asked and answers ought to be given forthwith, as to whether or not the minor child sought the proper help, in the proper sequence. It is our considered view that any victim of sexual exploitation and/or predation, especially a child, ought to have engaged the Police, first; second, the necessary medical, social healthcare and counselling professionals, and if as an after-thought the Media, last. If it becomes clear that that sequence has not been followed, there are more questions than answers as result of the interview.”
