Kaieteur Sports- Two of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) female referees, Denisha Isaacs and Kenisha Prescott, will represent the country at the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Course for Caribbean Women Match Officials, scheduled for March 7-9, 2025, in Antigua and Barbuda.
The initiative, organized by the CFU Referee Committee and the CFU Secretariat, aligns with the CFU’s strategic focus on referee development and is being hosted in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association. The course is exclusively for female referees on the FIFA International Refereeing List, reinforcing the commitment to advancing the standards of officiating in the region.
Participants will undergo intensive physical and theoretical training, focusing on the Laws of the Game, position and movement, match management, the psychology of officiating, and the referee as a brand. A key highlight of the course will be a daylong workshop on March 8—International Women’s Day—dedicated to issues unique to Caribbean female referees. This session will explore the history of women in Caribbean refereeing, wellness, and community-building to strengthen their presence and impact in the sport.
The CFU’s International Women’s Day 2025 theme, “Accelerate Action,” will serve as the guiding principle for the course, emphasizing the need for swift and decisive measures towards gender equality. The training is expected to enhance the skills and knowledge of participants, improving their performance and increasing their opportunities for regional and international match appointments.
The Referee Department continues to actively support referee development, ensuring that its match officials receive high-level training and exposure to advance in their careers and contribute to the growth of football in Guyana.
