Kaieteur Sports- Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) president Bissoondyal Singh was re-elected to his position yesterday following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the LBI Cricket Facility on Saturday.
According to a release, the meeting which was held for four hours saw Singh being re-elected to his position unopposed, with a number of changes being made to the executive body.
First Vice-president position will see Deleep Singh taking over from Rabindranauth Saywack, who previously held the position when the GCB held its elections roughly four years ago.
Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) president Cecil Beharry will hold the post of Second V-P, a role held by former BCB boss, Hilbert Foster while Dr. Brian Sukhai was named Treasurer in place of Prittipaul Jaigobin, who held the post previously.
Other changes to the executive body saw Devdeerth Anandjit being replaced as Assistant Treasurer by Vicky Bharosay, with Ravindranauth Saywack being appointed Marketing Manager.
Long-serving executive Claude Raphael, the board’s PRO for a number of years, was replaced by Edwin Seeraj while Trustees Mirenda Cornelius and Zaleena Anderson replaced the previous duo of Elroy Stepheney and Andrew Forsythe.
The Auditor body for the GCB going forward will be PKF Barcellos Narine and Co. which replaces Jack Alli Sons & Co.
A statement following the AGM, stated “Mr Singh got into office in 2021, it was challenging because of no financial resources and a collapsed cricket structure with no inter-county to the extent it was difficult to find a Demerara Senior women’s team.”
It continued, “There were no Guyanese in the Senior Male West Indies team and only two in the Senior Women’s team. We now have 5 male white ball and 3 players in the red ball team while 5 players in the Senior female West Indies teams.”
“Inter-county tournaments were a thing of the past. However, from then to now we have managed to reintroduce inter-county at all levels including under-13 and a national inter-club U23 tournament. The Guyana Harpy Eagles have won back-to-back West Indies Championship along with the Female U19 regional title in 2024,” among other significant achievements both on and off the field of play, it ended.
