Kaieteur Sports- The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), which is responsible for hardball cricket administration in the County of Berbice, has made a number of appointments to its executive structure.
Appointed executive Former Berbice player and Assistant Superintendent of Police Michael Newland heads the disciplinary committee.
The BCB is one of three board that makes up the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) which administers cricket in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. At the conclusion of the BCB General Meeting and subsequent Executive Committee meetings a number of persons were added to the executive committees as appointed executive members.
The board, which is headed by Dr Cecil Beharry, decided to appoint those persons who have specialized skills and will be an asset to the board. Those appointed were Narendra Persaud, Michael Newland, Devika Chetram and Samuel Whyte.
Mr. Narendra Persaud is the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of The East Berbice Corentyne Region 6. He is an ardent cricket fan a former player and Community activists. Persaud with his wealth of experience as an administrator in a number of spheres will be an asset to the BCB. He has already contributed significantly in his short stint with the BCB so far.
Assistant Superintendent of Police and former Berbice all-rounder Michael Newland, apart from being appointed as an executive member, he also heads the Disciplinary Committee.
With his wealth of experience as a disciplinary officer and a top cricketer he is set to serve well in his post. Newland who still plays cricket, has already given pep talks to teams that were selected to represent Berbice in various cricket competitions.

The Secretary of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce Ms. Devika Chetram apart from her executive appointment, heads the merged Marketing and Special Events Committees. This committee is expected to spearhead fund raising and other marketing activities.
Veteran journalist Samuel Whyte has been appointed the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the board.
