Kaieteur News- A budding young entrepreneur’s life was tragically snuffed out on Thursday after a Canter truck crushed him to death at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD). He had reportedly swerved his bike from colliding with a female pedestrian, lost control and fell into the path of the heavy-duty vehicle.
The dead man is identified as 23-year-old Ezekiel Castello, the owner “Zeek592Customs”, a small business that customizes sneakers.
Castello a resident of Lot 294 Savage, La Penitence, Georgetown was killed around 15:37 hrs.
Pixels GY Inc.’s cameras recorded the victim riding a motorcycle south along the Eastern side of the East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road. As he approached the intersection that leads to the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) the traffic in front of him began slowing down.
Castello was subsequently seen undertaking the slowly moving vehicles in a Zig Zag manner when suddenly a woman walking north appeared in his path. It appeared as if Castello was unable to simmediately halt the bike, so he made a sudden swerve right, lost control and fell with his bike onto the road.
Unfortunately, Castello’s head fell under the tray of a Canter truck that was driving closely behind him. He could not recover quickly and the rear wheel of the truck ran over his head, crushing his skull.
Police said that an ambulance was summoned immediately.
Castello, according to the police, was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The truck driver is in custody assisting with the necessary investigation.
Castello, a Guyana Technical Institute (GTI) graduate had big plans for his life. He launched a small business in 2022 and hard-work led to it becoming a successful venture.
In 2023, the Kaieteur News’ Sunday Magazine, The Waterfalls featured him as a “Young Entrepreneur”.
During an interview with the magazine, the young Castello spoke about his passion for small businesses.
“I think that young entrepreneurs play a huge role in society because not everyone has a mind whereby, they have a business idea and work towards it and be consistent with it,” he had said.
