Kaieteur Sports- With less than a month to go preparations have heightened for the much anticipated Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) Boxing Day horserace meet.
The event, which is slated for the venue at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, has seen the organisers making other changes to the day’s race card.
The KMTC has been touted as one of the top horse racing venues in the country and is renowned for staging top class meets. The December 26th race meet is one of the leading events on the racing calendar in Guyana.
Seven races are listed on the programme with over seven million dollars in cash trophies and other incentives up for grabs.
According to Honorary President and Matriarch of the club, Mrs. Chand Kennard, one further change has been made to the days programme. She said that a number of request have been made by horse owners and sponsors to be a part of the day’s activities. The Club is trying to be as accommodating as possible thus the changes.
The G1 and lower event has been replaced by an event for H1 and lower horses going over 7 furlongs for a first prize of $500,000 and trophy.
The L non-winners event has been upgraded to L open over 6 furlongs for a $250,000 winners take and trophy.
The feature event remains the clash for horses classified C1 and lower over mile for a winners’ take of $1.2M and trophy.
The other races are the event for Three years old open Guyana bred horses, competing for a winners’ money of $500,000 and trophy over 7 furlongs, an event for J and lower animals, racing for a first prize of $300,000 and trophy over 6 furlongs, one for K class non-winners and L open horses, matching strides over 6 furlongs for $250,000 and trophy.
Guyana Bred 2-years old maiden animals will be racing over 5 furlongs for a winner’s reward of $250,000 and trophy.
The outstanding jockeys, trainers and stable will receive trophies and other accolades compliments of Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall.
The event will be conducted using the rules of The KMTC.
