kaieteur Sports- At Pickwick: The Red Devils opted to bowl first against Strikers in a 34-over match, allowing the Strikers to post a formidable total of 200/6. Asif Chan, son of renowned cricket journalist and commentator Naim Chan, excelled alongside Dary Balgobin in a remarkable third-wicket partnership. Balgobin narrowly missed a half-century, finishing with 48 runs (1 six and 4 fours) from 47 deliveries, providing crucial stability to the Strikers’ innings despite overcast conditions. Opening batsman Antonel Atwell contributed a solid 30 runs. Asif Chan ultimately scored 66 runs (3 sixes and 5 fours) off just 51 balls.
The Strikers faced a setback when Chan and Balgobin were dismissed in quick succession, which hindered their scoring momentum after a promising start that hinted at a total nearing 250. Captain Farnum chipped in with a quick-fire 24. For the Red Devils, Raj Mangalie was the standout bowler with figures of 3 for 15 in 4 overs, while Ian Drakes claimed 2 for 40 in his 7 overs.
The Red Devils began their innings cautiously, struggling to rotate the strike and convert singles into doubles. Although they managed a few powerful hits towards the end, they ultimately fell short by 43 runs. Captain Rajendra Mangalie was the top scorer for the team with 45 runs (2 fours and 2 sixes) off 62 balls. Ken Mayers contributed 28 runs from 45 balls, while opener Terrance Romaine scored 22 runs off 42 balls.
At BNOC: Captain Ryan Ramdass electrified the crowd with a dazzling 80 runs (4 fours and 5 sixes) off 59 balls. Julian Boyce provided solid support with a well-crafted 34 runs (4 sixes) off just 26 balls, and opener Anthony Sahadeo added 23 runs from 31 balls with 4 boundaries, leading the Royals to a total of 198 for 7. Raja Pooran stood out with the ball for the opposition, taking 3 wickets for 36 runs.
In response, the Warriors crumbled to a mere 69 runs, with Krishna Singh wreaking havoc with figures of 4 for 8, while Andy Layne took 2 for 11. Only Vishan Lall and Roy Singh managed to reach double figures, scoring 18 and 11 runs.
