Kaieteur Sports- The Soesdyke Premier League T/10 Cricket Tournament, hosted by the East Bank Cricket Association (EBCA), kicked off last weekend with matches held across three venues on the East Bank – Farm, Laluni, and Canal #2.
The opening day on Saturday saw Peter’s Hall achieve a nine-wicket win over Herstelling B at the Farm ground. Chasing 66 runs in 10 overs, Peter’s Hall reached 69-1 in just 6.2 overs. Narendra Persaud led the charge with a stylish 32 runs, hitting three fours and three sixes. In another match, half-centuries by Christopher Barnwell and Leon Johnson pushed North Soesdyke to a formidable 148-2 in their 10 overs. Barnwell scored a blistering 73 runs with five fours and seven sixes, while Johnson added 56 runs with three fours and four sixes. Peter’s Hall, in response, was all out for 85, with T. Jagunaught taking two wickets and Nkosie Beaton and Assad Fudadin also claiming two wickets each.
At Canal #2, Demolition defeated Raptors by seven wickets. Raptors posted an impressive 169-3 in 10 overs, with Quinton Sampson narrowly missing a century, hitting 13 sixes and three fours for a hard-hitting 94, while Riyad Latif contributed an aggressive 59. Demolition’s chase was anchored by Jonte Thomas’s 58, which included seven sixes and two fours, and Corwin Austin’s 46 runs, securing a seven-wicket win.
Meanwhile, at Laluni, Sandpiper’s chased down Silverbullet’s target of 83 in just 6.3 overs, finishing at 83-2, thanks to Chris Deonarine’s 33 and Abilash Dookie’s 18. Herstelling A clinched a nine-wicket win over Sandpipers, reaching 49-1 in 5.1 overs, led by Vivian Beckles (24) and Sagar Hathrimi (11). Herstelling A later secured another close victory over Silverbullet by four wickets, reaching 92-6 in 9.2 overs, with Quazim Yusuf’s quick 38 and Sagar Hathrimi’s classy 35 runs leading the chase.
On Sunday, Uprising picked up two wins at Farm, defeating Diamond by 41 runs and the home team by eight wickets. Diamond also claimed a 15-run win over Farm. Laluni saw Laluni Boys, EBCA Under-23, and North Soesdyke all securing wins.
The league continues this weekend at the same venues as the EBCA advances toward crowning its SPL champion.
