…Other West Indians make minor gains
Kaieteur Sport- Despite losing both the T20I and One Day International Series on their recent tour of Sri Lanka, a few West Indians managed to gain some ground on the International Cricket Council (ICC) Player Ranking lists.
West Indies conceded the ODI series, 2 – 1, to the host nation and in the process secured their first ODI win of 2024, following 11 attempts.
However, credible individual performances continued to pour in from a familiar bunch.
Gudakesh Motie, who recently moved to third in the ICC T20I bowling ranking before the Tour, was magnificent in the 50-over series as well. Motie jumped 13 places to 38th on the Ranking with a Rating of 512, the highest of any current West Indian player.
The only other West Indian in the Top 100, Alzarri Joseph, moved up five places to 40th with a Rating of 510.
In the batting department, West Indies’ Top ODI run-getter, Shai Hope, dropped two places from 11th to 13th and lost 11 points on the Rating list. He currently boasts a Rating of 665.
Brandon King is the only other West Indian in the Top 100 Batters and sits solitarily in 86th. However, following the ODI series, he lost four points on the Rating list and now has 440.
Meanwhile, on the ICC ODI Team Ranking list, the Boys in Maroon are in 10th position.
T20I Series
Motie continues to impress around the world in T20Is and has now improved his Ranking from third to second following the series, which they also lost, 2 – 1.
The left-arm spinner sports a Rating of 704, second only to Afghanistan’s Adil Rashid, who sits atop with 721.
The other Top 100 West Indian bowlers that took part in the series were Joseph, who occupies 23rd with a Rating of 583 and Roston Chase–33rd (556).
Akeal Hosein, who was not a part of the series, has dropped from second to fourth with a Rating of 674.
In the batting department, no one made a gain or recorded a loss in Rating and Ranking, with Brandon King being the highest-rated West Indian batsman at 9th with a rating of 656.
On the ICC T20I Team Rankings, West Indies are currently in fourth place behind India, Australia and England, respectively.
Meanwhile, West Indies will play host to England from Thursday, October 31, when they oppose them in the first match of the CG United ODI series. They then set their sights on the 3-match T20I series, which bowls off November 9.
