Kaieteur News – Jasmine Morgan and Mariah Ernest both students at Chase’s Academic Foundation have attained Grade one passes at CXC English subjects.
Morgan sat just English A while her counterpart, Ernest was prompted to take on both English Language and Literature.
The bold move by the two teens proved to be the right step as they prepared diligently and even stood out among fifth formers who are years older. Morgan recalls initially feeling uncertain about her decision but followed through because “there was no turning back and now I am most happy with that decision.”
Speaking on her preparation Morgan said, “Preparation mentally and emotionally was a necessary but tough task given my age. I often had inklings of doubt pry its way into my mind but despite that, I willed myself to stay strong. Academically, it was also a tedious task, at home studying and the gruelling hours of extra lessons always left me exhausted.” She accredits her success to her support system (family, teachers and friends) all of whom played a major role in her success and also her love for language which made the task somewhat easier.
Ernest, on the other hand, took on a more demanding task by including Literature to her list; a subject which challenges, even the older students.
Nevertheless, she succeeded with no surprise to any of her teachers. Deciding to take up the challenge was not totally her choice, rather a combination of her teachers and parent. She recalls feeling very nervous upon actually confirming her registration for the subjects and had to get constant encouragement, luckily Ernest was gifted with excellent teachers.
Her schedule was rigorous having lessons in the afternoons throughout the week and even on Saturdays and even still doing individual work at home after extra classes.
The biggest challenge for Ernest came where she had to balance her CSEC preparation with her regular classes. All the nerves faded when she found out her work was all for good and secured her Grade One.
She stated “I had spent so long questioning whether or not I would pass and then the results came and it turns out I hadn’t just passed but achieved grade ones, I felt really relieved, proud and happy that I was able to reach my goal.”
The teen also shared that she has learned that “a challenge is always good and during that you should have a strong support system and have to work hard within yourself and you will achieve your goal no matter what it may be.”
In addition to the young teens, their classmates also secured excellent passes in the subject area, namely Gabriella Edmonson, Jenay Poornomassy, Emma Reid, Dikalia Corlette, and Ninth Graders Triston Williams, Zahra Anthony, Omarie Dowridge, Demitry Mohamed, Emmanuel Skeete, Krystal Stephen, Yuan Yi Cao and Shamiah Sookram.
Chase’s Academic Foundation extended congratulations to all the CSEC students and thanked their parents for trusting the school with their academic journey.
