Kaieteur Sports – Jaffar Samad, the son of former Canada player and Canada-based Guyanese Abdool ‘Bird’ Samad, hit a stroked-filled 66 to inspire Superstar Colts A to a comprehensive, 148-run win over Mississauga Dolphins last Saturday when action continued in the Toronto and District Cricket Association (T&DCA) Under-18 T20 tournament.
Playing at Thackery Park venue in Etobicoke, the right-handed Samad cleared the boundary on four occasions and reached it four times as well. His team ably rattled up a formidable 189-3 from the allocated 20-overs while Mississauga Dolphins were scuffled out for a modest 41 in the 16th over.
Samad got good support from Fayyaz Hanif, whose dad Azib Alli Hanif represented Guyana at the first-class level. Fayyaz contributed an impressive 49, an innings laced with five fours and a six.
Jamaal Shamsudeen and Jetan Mehta also in the runs-column with 33 and 29 not out respectively.
For Mississauga Dolphins, only Kalimullah Quraushiv and Mustapha Ahmadi reaching double-figures. Quraushiv made 13 and Ahmado 10 as their team folded meekly against the spin-pace combination by Superstar Colts A side.
Samad returned with his medium-pace to take 2-1 from just a solitary over while off-spinner Metha also making an impact with the ball by grabbing 2-8 from his maximum four overs. Avi Patel, another slow bowler, was also outstanding by accounted for two victims as well.
Meanwhile, in another match at the first-division level, Fayyaz Hanif registered a half-century (58) representing Noor Cricket Youth Club 2. His team overwhelmed Punjab Qalandars by 87 runs.
The T&DCA tournament will continue on Sunday with its preliminary stage.
