Kaieteur News – All of the Latin Embassies in Guyana have joined hands with Global Tours and Travel to host ‘Fiesta Latina’ later today at the Promenade Gardens, Middle Street, Georgetown.
Gates will be opened at 17:00 hrs. sharp and admission is only $1000. Children under 12 will be granted free entry.
Global Tours and Travel (GlobalTT) is a Guyanese Company that has partnered with other companies across the globe to offer tour packages for a number of tourist destinations especially those in Latin America.
This year the travel company has chosen to introduce the Latin culture to Guyanese travellers via festivals by partnering with all of the Latin American embassies based in the country. The embassies on board are from Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
According to GlobalTT’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Waynewright Orderson, his company’s Latin festivals are aimed at allowing Guyanese the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Latin culture so that they can better appreciate what Latin America has to offer.
“So what we found is that a lot of travellers from Guyana attempt to go to the traditional polls and don’t go to the Latin countries which are very close by and have really beautiful settings that they can enjoy” Oderson said while adding, “So what we are doing is having this festival so they can get a taste of Latin America”
The first Latin Festival hosted by Global Tours and Travel was on May 5, this year and it was called “Fiesta Cubana”. It was well received, according to Orderson , but focused mainly on Cuba and its culture.
“This one (Fiesta Latina) is focused on a wider Latin American community. As you know there is a growing Latin presence in Guyana particularly amongst the Venezuelans and Cubans and other Latin Americans like the Dominicans, Mexicans and so forth are here,” he said while explaining that today’s event is a full drink, music and dance festival”.
“The venue (Promenade Gardens) is going to be divided into three sections. There is the band stand area that will be the cultural area”, Oderson told Kaieteur News. There will be live performances by a Cuban band that is headlined by its lead singer Maria Rodriguez and other musicians including a violinist, the GlobalTT CEO added.
“We also have performances from other Latin territories but it’s not going to be just music, there is also Latin dance routines, there is gonna be display of traditional clothing and popular wear from the various countries,” he continued.
Cultural foods and drinks will also be available. “We are having chefs from the various territories who will be using their own ingredients to prepare their traditional dishes for you to taste”
A Dominican food tent will be at the venue along with a large bar offering Latin cocktails and drinks. Orderson said too that there will also be a “brewtopia” with all the different brands of Latin beers for patrons to sample.
“There will also be wine from Argentina and Chile along with well-known cigars from Cuba and the Dominican Republic.”
Apart from the performances, patrons will have the opportunity to participate in Karaoke, Domino games and there will be a Kid Zone for the Children. One lucky patron will also leave with a surprise prize from Sky High Dominica Airlines.
