Dear Editor,
A declaration was made at midnight that 80 percent of the votes were counted and the incumbent won 51 percent, while the challenger got 44 percent.
On this basis the incumbent was declared the winner. Further, it was being alleged the data transmission system was a victim of cyber crime. This was not made known at the time of the declaration of results, but after. So are the declared results tainted?
Calls have been made for verified results to be made publicly available to authenticate the victory claim. This has not been done several days later. Why the reluctance to produce and stand by what was claimed?
This is reminiscent of another elections where claims of victory were loud but calls to produce the SoPs were met with stonewall and ignored to this day. Claiming victory, which is being disputed, demands verifiable proof. To not do so sends an ominous message.
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
