Dear Editor,
With regards to the rising cost of living perhaps the democratically elected PPP/C Government needs to raise Public Assistance and make more people aware of it so that they can apply.
As well as, pensions need to be raised.
This is targeted intervention to help the poor and vulnerable groups.
There is also a need for people who are unemployed (and were not looking for a job, hence the low labour force participation rate in Guyana) to start looking for a job.
While I accept that wages are low in Guyana, pushing up wages more will result in higher cost of living which impacts the poor more.
Better for everyone of working age in the household to have an income, be it from work or from Public Assistance to relief the pressure on households.
Sincerely,
Sean Ori
