Kaieteur Sports – In a highly anticipated return after a six-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carlton Stephenson, popularly known as Corn Man, in collaboration with Gary Fugundez, is set to host the seventh edition of the ‘One Man Marathon’. This premier road race event is scheduled for August 1, starting from the Bread Shop in Turkeyen/Sophia and concluding in Uitvlugt on the West Bank of Demerara.
The last edition of this celebrated race took place in 2018, attracting a plethora of prominent figures and drawing significant public interest. This year’s race promises to be no different, with organisers expecting a large turnout and high levels of enthusiasm from both participants and spectators.
The marathon will commence at the popular Bread Shop on Red Road in Sophia. Runners will proceed westward on Dennis Street to Sherriff Street, making a left turn at Sherriff Street and proceeding south towards Mandela Avenue. From there, participants will turn left at the DSL junction; head to the Demerara Harbour Bridge (crossing). The race will then make a right turn towards the Vreed-en-Hoop junction. The race will then head westward, culminating at the four corners in Uitvlugt.
Race coordinator Carlton Stephenson is calling on corporate Guyana to lend their support to this worthy cause. “We are eager to resuscitate this event and promote a healthy lifestyle among our fellow Guyanese. Lots of trophies and prizes will be up for grabs,” Stephenson stated.
Interested persons are encouraged to contact Carlton ‘Corn Man’ Stephenson at telephone number 219-4856 for further information and registration details.
The event aims to promote health and wellness within the Guyanese community and has become a significant event in the local sports calendar.
Come be a part of history and join us for what promises to be a remarkable event, fostering community spirit and healthy living.
