– Local football community mourns
Kaieteur Sports – The local football community was struck by tragedy yesterday with the passing of Enoch Carmichael, the goalkeeper for Guyana Defence Force Football Club.
According to reports reaching Kaieteur News, the 28-year-old Carmichael collapsed during a goalkeeping drill at the GFF training Centre in Providence.
Despite immediate medical attention from team officials and players, Carmichael was taken to Diamond Hospital where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
In a statement, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) expressed deep sadness over Carmichael’s untimely passing, with President Wayne Forde extending condolences on behalf of the football community.
Carmichael had transferred to GDF FC from Paradise FC in Berbice and had been instrumental in the team’s success, earning accolades such as the league’s Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper.
Throughout his time with the club, Carmichael garnered recognition for his outstanding performances, including being named the Big Four MVP in 2017 and the Super 16 Best Goalkeeper in 2020.
GDF FC currently leads the GFF Elite League and is set to represent Guyana at the upcoming Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield Championship in Curaçao later this month.
Stand up for your children, please.
