Kaieteur News – “Say no to the old bland food of the past…” Those are the words of young entrepreneur Owen Withrite whose decision behind his emerging ‘Green Seasoning’ business was the desire to have you nourish on well flavoured food.
Hailing from Melanie on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), 26-year-old Withrite said his entrepreneurial journey began on May 29 last. He revealed that the inspiration behind Green Seasoning came from his desire to make an income for himself, but as time went on, it evolved into something much greater.
“I am passionate about what I do and am excited about the future possibilities that lie ahead for Green Seasoning. With hard work, determination, and the support of those around me, I am confident that we can achieve great things,” he expressed. When asked how his skills were honed, Withrite told The Waterfalls that he learned the process in doing it all and gave credit to his mother.
“I learned to make seasoning from looking at my mom while she is in the kitchen,” he stated. After getting a hang of things, then is when he decided to launch the business back in May.
While the business is still relatively new, Withrite shared that ‘Green Seasoning’ is all about bringing flavour to your food with their special seasoning blend. He recalled “We started with our signature Green Seasoning, but we have big plans to expand our product line to include peppers in the near future,” he related.
He shared too that ever since the launch, the support base has been good and that it comes primarily from friends and family, who have been instrumental in helping the business grow, something that he is very thankful of. Withrite further admitted that so far, the only the sort of challenges he faced is in sales and marketing.
“But we are determined to overcome these obstacles and continue to grow and thrive in the market,” he pledged.
With that being said, the young man told The Waterfalls that the long-term goal with ‘Green Seasoning’ is for it to become an international seasoning business, reaching people all over the world.
Looking to take his business to greater heights and contribute in a meaningful way, our featured entrepreneur is of the view that small business owners are important and that they are really the game changers in our society.
“As a young entrepreneur, I believe that we play a crucial role in society by bringing fresh ideas and innovation to the table,” he said.
The young man said while they are crucial, he believes there is always more that can be done to boost small businesses locally, particularly in the areas of marketing and showcasing their products.
