Kaieteur News – Y’all remember de story of de King with de invisible clothes. This sovereign was a visionary, or so he insisted, who believed his invisible garments—spun from the finest threads of denial and woven with the deft fingers of sycophancy—were the envy of all his subjects.
Each morning, as the King paraded through the bustling markets and crowded squares, his loyal ministers marveled at the emperor’s new clothes. “Majesty,” they proclaimed with great reverence, “your attire today is the epitome of elegance.” The King would beam, blissfully unaware that his wardrobe was, in fact, non-existent.
We gat nuff leaders in dis world like dat King. Some of y’all might even know some of dem. Dese leaders stride through the corridors of power with an air of impeccable confidence, oblivious to the glaring flaws that are as visible as the morning sun. Like the fabled King, dese leviathans are adorned in the invisible garments of infallibility, convinced of their unassailable brilliance.
As Rodney once reminded us about such leaders, their courtiers, much like the King’s ministers, are adept at the art of flattery. They extol his every decision, no matter how misguided, as a masterstroke of genius. “Look at our prosperity,” they cry, even as the potholes multiply like rabbits and the power outages stretch longer than a lazy Sunday afternoon. “Marvel at our unity,” they cheer, while whispers of discontent swirl around.
Facts bend and reality warps under the sheer weight of the leader’s self-delusion. The economy might be teetering, but the Kings’ invisible cloaks are always in pristine condition. The cries of the impoverished echo through the streets, but they are mere background noise to the symphony of sycophancy playing in the Kings’ courts.
But, as with all great tales, there comes a reckoning. One brave soul—or perhaps a chorus of them—might one day have the courage to point and laugh, to shout that the King is, indeed, parading naked. Until that day, the Kings of dis world will continue to stroll through their kingdoms, resplendent in their invisible clothes, blissfully unaware of their own stark nudity.
Talk half. Leff half.
