Kaieteur News – A teenager was injured in an accident in Albouystown on Tuesday after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the front passenger door of a motorcar at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Hill Street, Albouystown.
The injured man has been identified as 19-year-old Nicholie De Souza, a mechanic of Lot 27 D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown. The motorcar was driven by 28-year-old Rudy Van-Der-Meer.
De Souza was reportedly riding the motorcycle at a fast pace when the accident occurred.
Police in a statement said that the accident occurred at 20:15h.
Investigations revealed that the driver of motorcar #PAE 3982 was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, whilst the motorcyclist was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Independence Boulevard, Albouystown.
Police said that as both vehicles approached the intersection at Independence Boulevard and Hill Street, the driver of the car made a right turn north onto Hill Street and ended up in the path of the motorcyclist resulting in a collision when the front centre of the motorcycle collided with the front (left side) passenger door.
The motorcyclist was flung into the air before landing on the road. He was picked up in a conscious state and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was seen by a doctor and treated for abrasions to the forehead and a broken left leg.
The driver of the car is currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.
