Kaieteur Sports – Kaieteur Falls, the longest single-drop waterfall in the world, was the backdrop for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup trophy yesterday afternoon.
After leaving State House, where the First Lady hosted the Hope Children’s Home, the trophy traveled to one of the most iconic spots on earth.
Chaperoned by ICC Head of Public Relations and Communications Damon Leon and West Indies players Kevin Sinclair and Mandy Mangru, the dimming sunset and the falls in the background produced arguably one of the most memorable shots of the festive tour thus far.
Assistant Director of Sport Franklin Wilson was also present.
The trophy tour began in March in the United States of America and has visited Argentina, Brazil, and fellow host nations in the Caribbean.
The tour will conclude today, Thursday (May 24) with two public engagements – at St. George’s Cathedral from 13:00h and the Kingston Seawall Esplanade from 17:00h.
The first aims to engage schoolchildren, while the second is a mini-concert, and fans can also win tickets.
Guyana is preparing to ‘knock it out of this world’ by showcasing its unique culture and warmly welcome the world when group matches are hosted from June 2-8, followed by semi-final two on June 27.
Guyana will host the second match in the tournament, but first for the West Indies, on June 2.
The Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies, will run from June 1 to 29.
Physical ticket sales are ongoing at the Guyana Cricket Board office on Regent Street or online at www.tickets.t20worldcup.com
