Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Defence Force FC on Tuesday night delivered a commanding performance, unleashing an unstoppable barrage to secure a 11-0 win over Monedderlust FC to move to second on the KFC Elite League Season Six points table.
Ann’s Grove United FC also emerged victorious on April 9 after a hard-fought 2-0 battle against their East Coast Demerara rivals, Buxton United FC, at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
In the second game of the night, Guyana Defence Force FC’s Darrel George scored a brilliant opener just 10 minutes into the game, opening the door for his teammates Obumchi Benjamin and Stephen McDonald to add three goals apiece to the scoreboard.
Benjamin netted in the 27th, 42nd and 84th minutes, while McDonald secured goals in the 45th, 72nd and 82nd minutes.
Three more players found the back of the net before the final whistle – Chris Macy in the 39th and 79th minutes, and Cedric Osbourne and Sherwyn Caesar, clinching the last two goals of the night in the 55th and 90+3 minutes, respectively.
Earlier in the evening, Ann’s Grove FC had an electrifying game breaking through Buxton
United FC defence to score twice – Elton Sullivan in the 29th and Yohance Francis in the 52nd minutes.
As of April 10, the Guyana Defence Force FC, the league’s defending champions, sits in second position on the points table with 15 points from five straight victories. Guyana Police Force FC leads the pack with a total of 18 points secured from six wins and one loss.
Slingerz FC moved down a spot to third place on 15 points from five consecutive wins, while Western Tigers FC finds themselves currently in fourth, boasting three victories and two losses, accumulating a total of nine points.
There was not much movement with the league’s middle teams – Fruta Conquerors FC are still in fifth with three wins and four losses, also totaling nine points and Den Amstel FC are in sixth position, securing seven points from two wins, one draw, and two losses.
Tuesday’s victory sees Ann’s Grove United jumped one place to seventh and Santos FC moved down a spot to eighth on the table with two wins and four losses, amassing six points
Bringing up the rear are Buxton United FC and Monedderlust FC, both still to secure points after playing five games since season six kicked off on February 25.
Ten top-tier clubs are competing for the first-place prize of G$2,000,000 and cash rewards of $1,200,000, $800,000, and $500,000 for the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
Tomorrow, April 13, Fixtures read: Buxton United FC take on Slingerz FC at 6:30 p.m., followed by GDF FC facing off against Western Tigers FC at 9 p.m., both at the NTC.
