I hereby call on the President and the Minister of Home Affairs to ensure that come 5th of May this year that the Holiday will be correctly and properly designated as Indian Arrival Day. In addition, the month of May must now be designated as Indian or East Indian Heritage month to properly celebrate and commemorate the monumental contributions of our East Indian Brothers and Sisters to the building of Guyana.
Editor, surely this is a no brainer for the authorities and I trust and hope that the Government will correct the past ignominious travesty of naming it Arrival Day. I call on East Indian organisations to raise their collective voices to ensure that this simple request is promptly dealt with by the Government so that our ancestors can be at peace knowing that their descendants are advocating for their rights and attaining same in the land of their birth.
Yours sincerely,
Chris Persaud
