Kaieteur Sports – Local National champion in the International Draughts format played on the 100 square boards, Mr. Jiaram, will leave Guyana tomorrow, Wednesday April 4th, 2024, to compete in the 22nd Pan American Draughts Championship in Costa Rica for both men and women.
The games would be played from April 5th to 13th, 2024 at the prestigious iconic Estadio National Stadium set in the lively La Sabana Metropolitan Park, San Jose.
This is the first time that local draught players are given the opportunity to play at that level, thanks to a contribution from the National Sports Commission. Tickets for two were booked for San Jose but the other player, Mark Brathwaite, was involved in an accident on the East Coast Railway Embankment causing severe lacerations to his leg and he cannot travel.
The airfare is nontransferable and nonrefundable leaving the Association in an embarrassing situation to replace the player.
The President and Vice President of the Association is seeking the airline’s intervention into the refund. As at Thursday last the airline fare to Costa Rica stepped up to G$469,000 per ticket. Other cost towards the event includes US$100 to register your country, US$100 to enter the competition and US$20 to enter the blitz.
Other contributions towards sponsorship were made by: Rubis Bel Air, Puran Bros. Inc., Elias Gentle Attorney at Law and M&M Snackette.
