Kaieteur News – A boat accident in the Pomeroon River on Thursday has left one man dead.
The deceased has been identified as Ivan Braithwaite. The incident occurred between 16:30 and 18:30 hrs on Thursday, in Kabakaburi, Upper Pomeroon River. Police said in a statement, “Investigations indicate that Braithwaite left home in his canoe to purchase some items from a shop. However, he did not return, and his canoe was seen drifting in the river with the items he bought inside.”
Subsequently a report was made to the Charity Police Station, and a search commenced but proved futile. Around 06:00hrs on Friday the man’s body was seen floating face down. He was discovered by his son-in-law, Paul Rodrigues. On examination no marks of violence was observed. The body was escorted to the Charity Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival by Doctor Maesh. The body is at the Charity Hospital’s Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
