Kaieteur Sports – The Essequibo Softball Cricket League will be running off another Over-40, T20 tournament from mid April, according to Chairman Wakeel Layne.
Interested teams can contact Layne (628-8030) for further information and registration as well.
Since the formation of the League in 2020, there were a number of competitions which were exciting and Layne is anticipating the same level of entertainment.
“We [are] ready to start another tournament as soon as mid next month; we all know is the holiday season currently but we will get cracking next month and no doubt it would be fierce but at the same time exciting,” Layne declared.
Over the years, there were some fascinating and outstanding individual performances and at the same time, the growth of veteran softball cricket is admirable.
“I want to thank all the teams for their participation over the years and what we saw was absolutely great; our League believes in hard-work and commitment and I expect to have another successful tournament,” Layne stated.
Layne also took the opportunity to thank all the sponsors for their continued support to the softball cricket, not only in Guyana but from as far as New York, Orlando and Canada.
Special mention was made to President Tom Bacchus and Vice-President Vo Tajeshwar for their continued commitment to keep over-40 softball lively and lovely.
Layne said that both Tajeshwar and Bacchus are ready to dedicate their time and effort again to support another competition.
There are always going to be challenges but these men will embrace anything to have a great tournament.
What transpired at other completed tournaments is a testament to Bacchus and Tajeshwar love and passion for softball cricket.
Meanwhile, Layne informed that the prizes will be known soon but is assuring teams there will be monetary and trophies up for grabs like previous tournaments.
Adding to the excitement, matches will be played at various venues across Region 2 with the Beach being an alternative facility.
The White-ball will be used with any-kind bowling.
