Kaieteur News – A man who is no stranger to court was remanded to prison on Wednesday, after he appeared before at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to several charges.
Thirty-two-year-old Marvin Blackman, who is a fish vendor at Meadow Bank Wharf, and a resident of Critchlow Street, Tucville, Georgetown, appeared before Principle Magistrate Faith McGusty, where five charges were read to him. The father of one pleaded not guilty to the following charges: robbery under arms; discharging a loaded firearm with intent; having a firearm in his possession without being a holder of a firearm licence and two counts of ammunition charges, that stated he had ammunition in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence.
The court heard that on Saturday last, at River View, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, whilst being in the company of others and armed with a firearm, Blackman robbed Travis Harley of a 40 pennyweight gold chain valued $480,000 and $600,000 cash, total value being $1,080,000. He is also accused of discharging a loaded firearm with intent. It is further alleged that on Monday, he was nabbed with an unlicensed firearm, and ammunition in Albouystown, Georgetown.
Blackman was represented by Attorney-at-Law George Thomas, who made application for bail in a reasonable sum, but the prosecution objected on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. The prosecutor also pointed out that the accused is a repeat offender, who appeared multiples time before the court for offences of a similar nature. In light of the facts presented by the prosecution, the court refused bail and Blackman was remanded to prison. He is scheduled to return to court on April 17, 2024 for reports and statements.
