Kaieteur Sports – Football fans and lovers will today be treated to four matches when the Pele FC Alumni Corporation host a special afternoon of action in memory of Pele FC fallen heroes at the Georgetown Football Club Ground, from 16:00hrs.
The local chapter of the club, led by Dirk Exeter has teamed up with the USA based Alumni for what is expected to be a memorable day of action with a number of past and pleasant players expected to attend.
According to Chairman of the Pele FC Alumni Corporation, Denis Ivor ‘Carrie’ Carrington, the day’s activity is very special for those players who have made the journey back to their homeland to celebrate the contributions their past stars, many of who they have played with back in the glory days.
“This event today is dear to us all as we not only reflect on the contributions of these players but keep their memories alive by letting the now generation of players know and appreciate their contributions. It would be a very entertaining afternoon and evening of football, on and off the field of play.”
Carrington further informed that the likes William ‘Bucka’ Chan, Lindon ‘Colt’ Carter, Lawrence Stoby, Lyndon ‘Pinhead’ Laing, Patrick ‘Labba’ Barton, Eric ‘ Riggy’ Smith, Alfred ‘Morro’ Morrison, BrenthleyYiraiyah Babb, Clyde ‘Farmer’ Browne, and himself will all be present at the venue, once known as the mecca of the game in Guyana.
The first match today, and Under-15 clash will see Pele taking on Black Pearl which would be followed by a female clash between Pakuri Jaguars and GT Kanaimas.
Honouring the memories of the Pele FC Fallen Heroes will then take center stage followed by an Under-20 showdown between Pele and Buxton Stars FC. The main event of the night will be a senior shindig between old rivals Pele, and Santos.
Fallen Heroes being honoured are Frank Watson, Cecil McKenzie, Billy Braithwaite, Denis ‘Pancho’ Alexander, Harold ‘Lightweight’ Kissoon, Joe Liken, Alice Liken, Wendell Manifold, Gregory Thorne-Stewart, Rodwell Anderson, Shefton Young, Shawn Bishop, Orin “Big Ears” Parris, Ashton “Chucker” Taylor, Sherwin “Dighty” Maxwell, Mark “Flap Hat” Stanton, Corwin Benjamin, Devon “Worm” Charles, Rosco Charles, Keith Giddings, Gavin “Bulla” Thompson, and Lawrence “Shorty Peck” Glasgow.
Meanwhile, the Alumni’s annual Youth Development Seminarfor youths during their Easter break I set for April 2nd, and 3rd of 2024 and will attract over 150 youths between the ages of 11-17.
This year’s programme will be held at Marian Academy Auditorium, Carifesta Avenue.
