Brazilian pleads guilty to causing death, eight other charges
Kaieteur News – A Brazilian national on Tuesday pleaded guilty to ‘Causing Death by Dangerous Driving’ and eight other charges.
Remanded, Casmero Cyril Juan
The charges were read to 26-year-old Casmero Cyril Juan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court by Magistrate Omadatt Chandan. He was charged with, Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, Driving a motor vehicle whilst breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, Failing to Stop after accident, Failing to render assistance to an injured person, Taking Motor Vehicle without owner’s consent, Unlicensed Motor Vehicle, Uncertified Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Driver, Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
The charges were read to him, and he pleaded guilty to all of them. He was remanded to prison, and the case was postponed to 16 April 2024 for sentencing. According to the police, the man was involved in a fatal accident which occurred on the 22nd of March, 2024 on Barrack Retreat Public Road in the Lethem Commercial Zone. The accident involved a pickup GAD 6773 which struck pedestrian Shamell Lindie, a 48-year-old from Culvert City, Lethem Central.
