Kaieteur Sports – The Easter football tournament was a thrilling spectacle over the long weekend, with Cougars FC, Ithaca FC, and Timehri Panthers emerging victorious in the Cool Crew Promotion and Paradise Sports Club Easter Cup. The event, known as the Skills Cash and Gold Football Championship, held in Berbice on Monday, showcased three exciting matches.
A notable double-header featured Mahaicony Western Lions against Airy Hall, and Ann’s Grove All Star against Beterverwagting (BV) TU, the day before. Airy Hall and BV claimed victories, while Buxton Stars received a win via walkover.
In Monday’s matchups, Herstelling Raiders faced Cougars FC in a tightly contested match. Despite a slow start dominated by solid defenses, Cougars FC’s change in tactics in the second half led to Ray Reddock breaking the deadlock in the 53rd minute, securing a 1-0 lead. This goal seemed to deflate the spirits of Herstelling, who struggled to mount successful attacks thereafter.
In another match, Ithaca FC defeated Hopetown FC 2-0, courtesy of goals from Omario Gabriel and Jennick Gittens in the 10th and 17th minutes, respectively.
Meanwhile, Timehri Panthers secured a 1-0 victory over Paradise Invaders, thanks to Akeem James’ 18th-minute goal.
Sunday’s matches at Golden Grove were equally captivating. Air Hall dominated Mahaicony Western with a resounding 6-2 victory, with Eon Abel scoring twice and Jason Ronaldo contributing early goals in the 6th and 8th minute. Ann’s Grove, however, suffered a 2-1 defeat against BV, with Devon Griffith and Quincy Jacobs each finding the net.
This tournament owes its existence to the collaborative efforts of Cool Crew Promotion and Paradise Sports Club, bolstered by the generous support of key contributors such as MVP Sports, Icon (IBIS Construction Sales and Rental), the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
Additional sponsors include Anchor Cement, Central Housing and Planning, ECS Construction and General Supply, Moore and Son Construction, Singh and Son Construction, the Urban Shoe Company, Republic Bank, JS Engineering and Supply, KK Technical Supplies and Rental, Lucozade Energy, Magnum Brand, Professor Emanuel Cummings, Colin Joseph, Curtis Andries, Park Square, Legal Entertainment, Chicken King, and Grill King Enterprise.
