Kaieteur News – A female soldier of the Guyana Defence Force died Wednesday evening when a truck crashed into her and another colleague while they were walking on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Dead is Sergeant, Deslyn Nicholson.
In a press release the Guyana Defence Force said it regrets to inform about the passing of Sergeant Nicholson who died Wednesday evening following a motor vehicle accident.
According to the GDF Sergeant (SGT) Nicholson was among a number of ranks participating in the Force 30 km Annual walk which commenced at approximately 17:50 hours Wednesday.
While in the vicinity of the Splashmins Fun Park on the Linden Soesdyke Highway, SGT Nicholson and two others were struck by a truck bearing number plate (GAC 5915.)
SGT Nicholson and the two other soldiers were rushed to the Diamond Hospital Complex by a GDF ambulance.
She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, Officers and Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force extends sincere condolences to the family of Sergeant Deslyn Nicholson.
